LEP (G(-2548)A) (leptin)

The gene is present in the following complexes:

DNA diagnostics for a predisposition to metabolic syndrome

The product of the LEP gene is leptin involved in the regulation of depot fat volume regulating food intake and energy expenditure. In obese people, the level of serum leptin is usually increased, and the relationship between the body weight and the serum leptin is linear. The presence of the G allele is associated with a change in leptin secretion, which causes an increase in body weight and, as a consequence, various pathologies associated with obesity.
