MAO A (30-bpVNTR) (monoamine oxidase A)

The gene is present in the following complexes:

DNA diagnostics of a person’s psycho-emotional status

The MAOA gene encodes monoamine oxidase A (enzyme), which catalyzes the degradation of key brain neurotransmitters and is found in large quantities in neurons. Variants 3.5R and 4R provide the synthesis of a highly active enzyme and normal stress resistance, while the 3R allele reduces the expression of the MAOA gene and, accordingly, the enzyme amount by 2-10 times. The 3R allele carriage is associated with increased anxiety, as well as a tendency to impulsivity and aggressiveness.
